Educational beta. Last reviewed 2026-09-18.

PlantCraft AI is a free educational beta for identifying wild plants and keeping a personal field library. This page describes what we actually collect and do with it today.

What we collect

How photo storage works today

Uploaded photos are stored in a private cloud storage bucket. There is no public link to a photo: when you open your library, the app requests a short-lived (one-hour) signed link for each photo you are allowed to see, and only your account (plus the shared starter library) can obtain those links. Identification services receive a similarly short-lived link or the image bytes, never a permanent address. As with any photo you share online, it is still wise to avoid uploading images that show your face, license plates, or a precise home address in the background.

Where your data goes for identification

To identify a plant, your photo is sent to:

Text you type (notes, questions) may be sent to the same AI providers when you use a feature that reads it (for example, asking a question about a specimen).

What we don't do

Access and deletion

Your specimen library is scoped to your account and is not visible to other users (other than the shared "starter" library, which is intentionally public to every signed-in tester). To request your data or its deletion, contact us through the contact page.

Not medical or safety advice

Photo identification and reference information do not establish that a plant is safe to eat, touch, or use. Always confirm with a qualified local expert before consuming or using any wild plant.

Changes

This is a beta product and this page will be updated as our data handling changes. Material changes will update the date at the top of this page.
